YLab welcomes motivated researchers and students interested in agentic AI, large language models, clinical natural language processing, pharmacoepidemiology, biomedical informatics, and real-world healthcare applications.
We are currently recruiting one Postdoctoral Fellow in Agentic AI for Healthcare and one Research Specialist in AI for Healthcare.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
Why Join YLab?
YLab provides a highly collaborative environment for developing and translating advanced AI methods into real-world healthcare applications.
Our trainees work with leading collaborators in AI, pharmacoepidemiology, clinical medicine, biomedical informatics, and healthcare data science, with opportunities to develop and evaluate AI methods in real-world clinical settings.
Postdoctoral Fellows
We are currently recruiting one postdoctoral fellow in Agentic AI for Healthcare, jointly with Professor Joshua Lin.
The position focuses on agentic AI, pharmacoepidemiology, clinical large language models, and real-world healthcare applications at Harvard Medical School and Mass General Brigham.

PhD Students
We welcome PhD students from the following programs who are interested in joining YLab for their doctoral research:
- Harvard Artificial Intelligence in Medicine PhD Program (AIM)
- Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST)
Students may initially join the lab through a rotation or research project before identifying YLab as their doctoral research home.
Students who have already been admitted to other PhD programs at Harvard or MIT are also encouraged to contact Professor Jie Yang to discuss potential pathways for joining the lab, including co-mentorship where appropriate.
Funding is available to support full-time PhD students whose research interests, technical background, and experience are a strong fit for the lab.
Prospective applicants should apply directly through the relevant degree program. Admission decisions are made by the programs rather than by YLab.
Master’s Students
We welcome master’s students interested in conducting research in AI, machine learning, NLP, biomedical informatics, health data science, statistics, and related areas.
Students from the following programs and related programs are encouraged to contact us:
- Harvard Computer Science and related SEAS programs
- Harvard Medical School Master of Medical Sciences in Biomedical Informatics
- Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health MS in Health Data Science
- Harvard Statistics graduate programs
- Other relevant programs at Harvard and MIT
Research projects require sustained effort, technical rigor, and meaningful intellectual contribution. Nearly every graduate student who has made sustained and substantial contributions to a YLab project has had the opportunity to lead a first-author paper.
Authorship is based on research contribution and follows standard academic authorship guidelines.
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students from Harvard and MIT who are interested in healthcare AI, agentic AI, machine learning, NLP, or biomedical data science are welcome to contact us about research opportunities.
Eligible Harvard College students may receive support through the Kempner Institute’s undergraduate research programs:
- KURE — Kempner Undergraduate Research Experience: term-time research support during the academic year
- KRANIUM — Kempner Research in Artificial and Natural Intelligence for Undergraduates with Mentorship: an intensive summer research program
